2022 Toyota Camry Configurations and Trim Levels

2022-toyota-camry-hero1

The Toyota Camry is well known for its affordability and reliability, and the 2022 model is no exception. It’s an excellent car for both highway cruising and sporty driving. All five 2022 Toyota Camry configurations (LE, SE, XLE, XSE, and TRD) are economical, with those carrying the four-cylinder engine being especially efficient.

The hybrid versions maximize fuel economy and deliver a good overall performance. But of course, the most fun comes with the V6-toting Camry TRD, with more than enough pace for the highway. Read on for a breakdown of all 2022 Camry trim levels and what they offer.

2022 Toyota Camry LE: Many Available Features That Tick All the Right Boxes

The 2022 Toyota Camry LE

The base Camry LE may not offer much by way of thrills, but it has just about everything you need. It has a 2.5-liter (152 ci) inline-four gas engine that makes a decent 203 hp and 184 lb.-ft. paired with eight-speed automatic transmission. It can manage 29/39/32 MPG city/highway/combined.

Starting at approximately $26,000, it comes with Toyota’s essential driver-assist features. These include automated emergency braking, limited speed range adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist with lane tracing, road sign assist, automatic high beams, and rear-seat reminder.

The LE will brighten your path at night with LED headlights alongside daytime running lights and LED taillights with black accents. A large dark gray front grille covers the front of the car. The 2022 Camry LE rides on 17-inch alloy wheels and sports color-matched side mirrors (with optional heating functionality) and door handles.

The interior gives you fabric-trimmed front seats — the driver seat is eight-way power-adjustable while the passenger’s is a six-way manual. The 2022 LE also gets dual-zone climate control and illuminated sun visor mirrors. For infotainment, it boasts a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa support. There’s also six-speaker audio and a 4.2-inch instrument cluster display as standard.

An optional convenience package offers you Toyota’s Smart Key System, HomeLink universal transceiver, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also available as options.

The Camry LE Hybrid Takes Mileage to the Next Level

The LE Hybrid is pretty similar to its younger sibling but with a few key differences. The powertrain comprises a hybrid system and the 2.5-liter four-cylinder paired with an electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission (ECVT). It makes slightly more horsepower at 208 hp and a lower 163 lb.-ft. of torque.

As you’d expect from a hybrid car, mileage is where this thing shines, capable of 51/53/52 MPG City/Highway/Combined. Unfortunately, it rides on slightly smaller 16-inch steel wheels with wheel covers which is a bit of a bummer considering it costs slightly more than the base LE trim.

It packs a few more interior features, including Brake Hold, Electric Parking Brake (EPB), and Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC). It also gets an extra mode (EV) alongside Eco, Normal, Sport on the base. However, it ditches the optional convenience package for an audio one with Audio Plus and Qi-compatible smartphone charging.

2022 Toyota Camry SE: An Aggressive Look That Should Appeal to Sports Car Lovers

The 2022 Toyota Camry SE

The approximately $27,000 Camry SE is the one to go for if you seek an LE with some sporty accents. It also houses the 2.5-liter inline-four with an 8-speed auto transmission under the hood. However, the SE’s LED headlights gain black accents and a stylish-looking black front grille with a sport mesh insert and sport side rocker panels.

Adding to that sporty look is a body-colored rear spoiler and a single exhaust with dual chrome tips. The interior continues the sportiness with SofTex-trimmed front seats and fabric inserts alongside a touch of luxury with a leather-trimmed steering wheel with paddle shifters.

The Camry SE Nightshade and Hybrid Options Add Even More Variety to a Great Pick

2022 Toyota Camry SE Nightshade

If you want your car to look sleek and stealthy, the Camry SE Nightshade is blacked-out inside and out to differentiate itself from the standard SE. The side mirrors, window trim, door handles, rear spoiler, and Camry badging are all black on this special edition. If you’re more interested in the mileage benefits of a hybrid car, the SE Hybrid’s 44/47/46 MPG city/highway/combined has you covered. There’s also an SE Hybrid Nightshade to give you the best of both worlds.

2022 Toyota Camry XLE: Keyless Entry and Heated Side Mirrors Put the X-tra in Luxury

2022 Toyota Camry XLE

The 2022 Camry XLE trim comes in at above $30,000, boasting more luxury than the LE but lacking the sportiness of the SE. It offers two engine options: the 2.5-liter four-cylinder on the smaller trims and a 301-hp producing 3.5-liter V6 paired with eight-speed transmission (or ECVT for the hybrid). In addition, there’s a bright metallic grille upfront, door handles with touch-sensor locking and unlocking, keyless entry, heated side mirrors with turn signal indicators, and 18-inch wheels.

Exteriorly, it’s an upgrade over the LE and SE in many ways, but it’s not until you step inside that you really notice the changes. The first thing that’ll catch your eye is the eight-way power-adjustable leather-trimmed front seats on both the driver and passenger sides — both have multi-stage heating, while the back seats have adjustable headrests. Of course, dual-zone automatic climate control is standard here, but you also get rear-seat vents.

Completing the luxury touch is wood-tone interior trim, ambient lighting, a 9-inch infotainment setup, and a 7-inch instrument cluster display. The XLE also adds driving improvements like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and dynamic gridlines for the standard backup camera. Like the LE, the XLE features a drive mode switch that only allows drivers to switch between Eco, Normal, and Sport.

The Camry XLE Hybrid and V6 Options Bring Mileage and Power to the Lineup

The XLE has a hybrid option that only comes fitted with the four-cylinder engine. Hence, if you want the V6, you’d have to stick to a gas-only model. If you do opt for the more powerful engine, you get a panoramic moonroof, a JBL nine-speaker premium audio system, a 10-inch head-up display, and sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors.

2022 Toyota Camry XSE: Dual Exhausts and Quad Chrome Tips Make It Even Sportier Than the SE

2022 Toyota Camry XSE

At about $500 more than the XLE, the Camry XSE combines many of the former’s luxury features — like an upgraded interior, extra safety features, etc.) with the sportiness of the SE.

Instead of 18s, the XSE rides on 19-inch gloss-black alloy wheels. Upfront, you get the same gloss black grille as the SE. However, the dual-exit exhaust system with quad chrome tips makes it even more sporty. For the interior, Toyota includes the SE’s leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, alongside patterned metal trim to replace the XLE’s wood tone.

The XSE Hybrid Is Great for Mileage, While the V6 Combines Raw Power With an Athletic Look

The XSE also has a hybrid option and a V6-toting model that adds all the niceties of the six-cylinder XLE — the large moonroof, heads-up display, upgraded audio system, and illuminated vanity mirrors.

2022 Toyota Camry TRD: The Sportiest of Them All, Offering the Cheapest V6 of the Lineup

2022 Toyota Camry TRD

The 2022 Camry TRD (short for Toyota Racing Development) is more or less a sport-focused Nightshade SE but with the V6 as the only engine option. At over $32,000, it costs less than the XLE and XSE V6s, making it the cheapest of the bunch — it lacks some of the luxury touches of those two, though.

The TRD is more than an SE on steroids, though. Exteriorly, it’s visually differentiated from the rest of the lineup with the black window trim, black heated side mirrors with turn signals, matte black wheel center caps with the TRD logo, a red TRD badge, and a TRD rear spoiler. There’s even a TRD cat-back dual exhaust that changes up the engine sound a bit.

The TRD’s interior bleeds red. The instrument cluster features red accents, the cabin incorporates red contrast stitching throughout, and the floor mats feature red detailing. You’ll also catch wind of the fixed rear seat compared to the 60/40 split in the other trims.

The 2022 Toyota Camry Has Something for Everyone

The 2022 Toyota Camry configurations offer a treat for sports and luxury fans alike. The LE brings owners a base level of comfort, while the XLE takes things to another level. The SE, XSE, and even the TRD, on the other hand, are built for lowkey racetrack lovers.

There are even hybrid options for those who want something with great fuel economy. Whichever you choose, you can’t go wrong with this car.
